'What are Genres and what do they mean to our daily lives?' This is the question posed to us to blog about for homework. We had been discussing genres in English on Monday, and it is now our chance to write what we think. So....
A genre is a way of tying together related texts (books, songs, movies etc.) that follow certain criteria. Genres are catergories that are not definite -a book can be more than one genre- but help to access and store what we put under those genres. This means that when you walk into a library or go to hire a movie, you can easily move to the section of book/movie you want to read/watch and pick out a suitable item - much easier than trawling through random books/movies.

Homework Feb 3rd
In English today we had a discussion on things in general that we would like to know and things that we would like to achieve and learn in English this year. Examples of these were; learning how to write exellence level essays and how to pass NCEA Level One English with at least merit. Another thing that we all established was that we did not want to repeat certain texts that we have studied before, e.g Butterflies, or focus too much on PEE paragraphs. An aim for us all this year was to make English fun and interesting by contributing ideas on what we want to learn and how we will learn it.
